But part of that is probably because of the way I play. That said in my case as an 18 year veteran of Total War I have 2500 hours of Rome 2, almost exclusively vanilla (or more recently with one bug fix mod,) and I can honestly say I still find it a fun challenge. If you're an experienced Total War player you're going to find any Total War easier than someone new to the series, regardless of how it works mechanically. I feel this is possibly the worst campaign experience I've had in TW games.ĭifferent people are going to find different games are challenging or appeal to them. How do you even enjoy this? Yes, I will find more challenge with harder factions and different campaigns, but the game severely lacks in any challenges or obstacles beyond the very beginning. Why is the penalty so weak?Ĭivil war is easily avoided and the senate is superficial since you can just hire your faction generals to reap all the benefits without any drawbacks.Īfter finishing on 'grand' campaign as the main faction in the game, I'm left wondering. While my empire took the entire iberian peninsula, italy, and france, I received -5 diplo penalty by being unstoppable strongest power on the map. I was pretty much the strongest faction from start to finish and there was only a very meagre diplo penalty which affected absolutely nothing while I quickly expanded non-stop. From my very first move I built an empire continuously doing 1vs1 against minor AIs. Rome 2 lacks WH2's explosive AI blobbing, Shogun 2's extreme AI aggression, Three Kingdom's AI alliance blocks, Attila's harsh management, and as a result it seems to have no challenges whatsoever. I know Rome is easy but it's my first time too. I started playing R2 yesterday for the first time on hard difficulty as Rome in the grand campaign. Or the better question yet: why is it done this way? Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
